OK, OK, maybe that is two things, but that is still pretty much a laser-like focus for a bunch of ski mask wearing heshers (I already told you to go look it up.)
Why the ski masks? Because it is not about them. It's about the skating. It's about the expression. It's about the lifestyle. It's about skateboarding culture being rooted in anarchy and release, and not about fat cats monetizing an image so that they can sell more Mountain Dew. The BA.KU. skaters don't even use their real names. They go by death-metal inspired nom de plumes (yeah, I used "nom de plume" in a sentence. Deal with it.) like Depth Leviathan Dweller, Deer Man of Dark Woods, and Vlad Mountain Impaler.
The incomparable photographer Anthony Tafuro has a new book out called, "BA. KU. Kult Skating/Dark Rituals". I have one coming that is supposed to be signed by the artist himself. That awful sound you hear? Yeah, that's me gnashing my teeth and clenching my butt hole in anticipation of it arriving. Want one yourself? Head on over to the DIE page, and get the skinny, or the 411, or the whatever it is the cool kids are calling it these days.
What's the DIE page? Why are you asking stupid questions. Just click on the link. Do I have to do everything for you?
